Simon Simon – The Zoo

In All, Live Music, Uncategorized

Last night I was back shooting at The Zoo in Brisbane. I am so glad that this great place is still a strong part of the Brisbane music scene. This historic venue has played host to the majority of the most important bands in recent Australian music history. The familiar setting is a great place to shoot and tonight hosts fresh new Brisbane lads Simon Simon.

Simon Simon are a electro-acoustic duo that fill their sounds with thick synth textures. There are obviously influenced from the likes of Sigor Ros, Hiatus Koyote and other synth heavy folk. They even punch out a pretty rad version of Radiohead’s Lotus Flower that does a good job of exciting the crowd.

Although the crowd is light they are very enthusiastic and it is obvious these lads have a special sound. The new single ‘Nothing to say‘ has a bit of a different vibe to the other tracks played on the night with a pop sensibility at the beginning but halfway through introduces that same dreamy chilled synth that ties in into there sound. It’s a great set that will be improved as the band mature their sound and relationships.

A great set overall and the beginnings of another great Brisbane duo. See you guys again soon.
