James – The Tivoli

In All, Live Music

James were in Australia for the first time in their almost 35 year career.

The crowd was pumped as James left them hanging for another 20 minutes before gracing the stage. A mountain of bodies were ready to wow the crowd with instruments strewn all over the stage.

Booth is just the most intense stage performer. He is connected to the whole performance whilst still being able to engage with the audience in a way that I have never seen before. He spends the whole of the second song balancing on the crowd barrier and holding onto the hands of a lucky punter.

The music is played with a lot of intensity and testament to the obvious passion the band has for their music. The lyrics are so very easily recognisable and has the crowd singing along to every word.

The highest point of the evening has to be the double hit of Getting Away With It (All Messed Up)  followed up with Laid and those magical opening lyrics.

“This bed is on fire with passionate love. The neighbours complain about the noises above, but she only comes when she’s on top.”

Booth spends one whole song walking through the crowd and then embarking on a bit of hand holding with the people up on the balcony. It is amazing to be partaking in some music with a front man that is so open to share his time in crowd and still perform to such a high level.

Overall it was one great gig.

Let’s hope this isn’t the only time James grace our shores.
